Comau automation technology helps EDP Power Group build its first solar power plant

December 05, 2024

The robotic and computing technology solutions developed by Comau were applied for the first time in the actual installation environment of EDP's solar power plant, marking an important breakthrough in automation technology in the construction of renewable energy. As a global leader in renewable energy, EDP used Hyperflex automation technology to test its first large-scale robotic automation system in the photovoltaic power plant in Peñaflor, Spain. The pilot project (AutoPV) plans to use 3 MW of robotic automation solutions in a total installed capacity of 122 MW, with the goal of improving construction efficiency, accelerating construction progress, and significantly improving safety.

Comau Hyperflex technology supports the on-site construction of solar power plants through an automated assembly station and mobile equipment. The entire system is transported to the power plant site by truck and automated in three main stages: from unloading to assembly, structural construction and subsequent disassembly. Pietro Gorlier, CEO of Comau, pointed out: "The collaboration with EDP demonstrates the added value of automation in the field of renewable energy, especially in the installation of solar panels. Through innovative technologies, we help our customers improve quality, efficiency, reduce costs and achieve sustainable development goals."
